Bathinda: One more stubble-burning case was reported from Ferozepur on Friday, taking the season’s tally to six. Of these, three have been reported from Ferozepur, two from Tarn Taran and one from Amritsar.With farm fires beginning to surface, penal action has also started. Environmental compensation (EC) totalling Rs 10,000 has been imposed in two cases, at Rs 5,000 each, of which Rs 5,000 has been recovered. A red entry has been made in the land records in one case, while show-cause notices have been issued to four nodal/supervisory officers.The Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) started recording stubble-burning cases from Sept 15. Two cases were reported on the first day in Tarn Taran, followed by three on Sept 16. No farm fire was reported on Sept 17, while one case was recorded on Sept 18.Farm fires had declined considerably in 2025, when the state recorded 5,114 crop-residue burning cases, down from 10,909 in 2024.
