Hazaribag: Police have solved the murder of a woman whose body was found beneath Kubri bridge behind the Hazaribag Wildlife Sanctuary under Ichak police station on Aug 25 and arrested one accused in connection with the case. The victim has been identified as Ranjana Sinha, a resident of Okni in Hazaribag and a PhD scholar at Vinoba Bhave University. Preliminary investigation suggests a land dispute as the motive behind the murder.The arrested accused, Prakash Kumar (27) of Ghirshindi Kala village in Bihar’s Gaya district, allegedly confessed during interrogation to murdering Ranjana along with two associates, Vicky Paswan and Ayush Kumar, who remain absconding. Police said raids are underway to nab them.According to investigators, Ichak police received information on the morning of Aug 25 about an unidentified woman’s body found beneath Kubri bridge. A case was registered against unknown persons and a probe was launched. With assistance from the technical branch, police traced and detained Prakash, who allegedly revealed details of the crime during questioning.Police said Ranjana, wife of Suresh Kumar Sinha, was strangled to death on Aug 23. After killing her, the accused allegedly transported the body and dumped it beneath the bridge during the night.Based on information provided by Prakash, police recovered the deceased’s spectacles from bushes near the crime scene. He has been sent to judicial custody.Ichak police station in charge Gautam Kumar said, “Prakash has a criminal record, with cases registered against him in Bihar under the Excise Act and other criminal provisions. Police are continuing efforts to arrest the remaining accused.”
