Chandigarh: After failing to attract a bidder four times in the recent past, the MC engineering department is all set to float the tender for repairs of the causeway or low bridge at Industrial Area, Phase One, again. The bridge is located on a road connecting with Chandigarh Railway Station.This time, the civic body has decided to make some changes to the tender document. Additional items will be added to strengthen the concrete structure and ensure the safety of commuters.“Since bidders did not show interest in the tender in the past, the engineering staff is assessing all aspects, including financial and technical parameters, to prepare the tender afresh. Some new items will be added to the tender document for maximum strengthening of the causeway. Iron grills will be added to the list of items to ensure safety,” sources said.With the rainy season almost over, the civic body plans to float the tender this month.The causeway or small bridge situated on Sukhna Choe has suffered damage on multiple fronts, particularly after last monsoon, when a rapid flow of water passed through the choe. Much structural damage was caused by the water, which washed the iron railings away.Construction of two drains along the Dadumajra dumpsite will also start in a few days. The work has been allotted to an eligible agency.Busy route into ChandigarhThe causeway or small bridge located on Sukhna Choe is a busy route. Traffic from Panchkula, Manimajra, Chandigarh Railway Station, Daria and other areas enters Chandigarh through this causeway.
