It’s been a couple of years since Retrofête last presented a New York Fashion Week runway show. So why make a grand return?
“For me, this season, I felt ready to show our new vision for Retrofête,” designer and co-founder Ohad Seroya told Fashionista over email. “After eight years of Retrofête, we’re in a very different place…This season, the creative side of me was inspired, the emotional side was ready and the businessman in me said, ‘Okay, let’s do it.’ That’s when I knew it was time to return to the runway.”
While Seroya didn’t have one exclusive starting point for the brand’s Fall 2026 collection (presented during NYFW’s Spring 2027 shows), one of his most prominent sources of inspiration was old European hotel interiors. He studied the upholstery, vintage carpets, velvet, embroidery and the shapes of old furniture.
“I started looking at every little detail and thinking about how I could bring that feeling into the collection,” he shared. “Then I started thinking about the woman who belongs in that world…She walks into a restaurant, a hotel, a party, and immediately you think, ‘Who is she?’ The collection became my way of bringing the Retrofête girl into this world.”
The lineup is full of tapestry-inspired prints, lace blouses and rich textures such as fur and feathers. Plenty of glamour — Retrofête’s DNA — also shows up in the collection, taking shape in dramatic fur coats and crystal-embellished gowns.
“I want our girl to look like she just walked out of a movie, or like she could be going to the Met Gala,” he said. “I know my girl. I know how she wants to dress, how she wants to feel and I love connecting with her in different places. Every year, she becomes a little more evolved.”
