Prayagraj: After taking serious note of a group of youths allegedly involved in reckless SUV stunt driving, the city cops on Sunday rolled out an extensive, multi-layered enforcement campaign to curb dangerous stunt and riding practices across the district.A video showing four SUV drivers performing an SUV stunt went viral on social media on Sept 5, inviting police action.Senior officials said dedicated teams have been deployed at the identified hotspots – Cantt, Civil Lines, Naini, Georgetown, Rambagh and Arail – where incidents of stunt biking, high-speed racing, and traffic violations by youths are frequently reported with the help of the CCTV network.Under the drive, barricades are being installed at strategic points and intensive checking drives are being carried out to take strict action against speeding motorcycles, vehicles operating without silencers, and riders performing stunts on public roads.On Sunday, Cantt police seized four SUVs involved in stunt acts and making reels under Motor Vehicle Act that could be dangerous to other commuters.Senior police have asked thana in-charges to make a dynamic enforcement strategy to conduct checking by changing locations and timings. This randomised pattern, as per the officials, is aimed at preventing habitual offenders from predicting police deployment and escaping action. Cops have also appealed to commuters to follow traffic rules and regulations and not get involved in stunt acts.
