THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A car crashed through the compound wall of the high-security Thiruvananthapuram International Airport at Shanghumugham on Sunday, injuring three passengers in what police suspect was a drunk-driving incident.The driver, Manu, a resident of Balaramapuram, was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, police said.According to the FIR, the car first collided with a motorcycle on the All Saints College-Shanghumugham road, injuring its riders. It then sped towards Shanghumugham before crashing into the airport’s perimeter wall near the Shanghumugham Air Force Station around 4.45pm.A police team that reached the spot found the driver allegedly intoxicated. The FIR said officers noticed slurred behaviour and the smell of alcohol on his breath. He was later taken to Thiruvananthapuram General Hospital, where blood samples were collected for further tests.Three other occupants of the car were injured and taken to hospital, police said.Airport authorities reached the spot and covered the damaged section of the wall with metal sheets. Police personnel were deployed in the area as a precautionary security measure.
