Kanpur: Intermittent cloud cover and bright sunshine made the weather sultry in Kanpur on Saturday, with residents continuing to grapple with high humidity despite largely dry conditions. However, relief may be on the way, with the IMD forecasting an active monsoon spell over the Kanpur division during the next 24 to 48 hours.The weather office said the formation of a low-pressure area over the division, along with a trough line passing through Uttar Pradesh, could trigger light to moderate rainfall, with heavy showers likely at isolated places.The city is expected to witness partly cloudy skies and intermittent sunshine during the day. Scattered rain and thunderstorms are also likely at isolated places.In Kanpur Nagar, the maximum temperature rose to 33°C on Saturday, around 1.5°C higher than Friday’s 31.6°C. The minimum temperature was recorded at 25.6°C.The city received only 1.1mm of rainfall during the past 24 hours. Maximum relative humidity stood at 83%, contributing to the sultry conditions.Easterly winds blowing at speeds between 7.1 and 11.2 kmph provided some respite to residents, though the high humidity continued to cause discomfort.CSA University weather expert S N Pandey said continued cloud movement over the next five days could result in localised thunderstorms, strong winds and light rain or drizzle in parts of the region. He added that humidity was likely to rise whenever sunshine broke through the cloud cover, keeping the weather uncomfortable despite the possibility of intermittent rainfall.
