KANPUR: Indian engineer Chandan Gupta (40), who was detained in Moscow, returned to his Kanpur home with his familThursday night, following which his wife released a fresh video contesting allegations of drunken misconduct against him.In the video, Sneha denied the allegations that her husband had consumed alcohol, broken a car window or indulged in vandalism. She challenged anyone with video or photographic evidence of the alleged acts to share it with her, saying she would submit it to the authorities and the Indian embassy.She also accused the Indian embassy in Russia of failing to provide adequate assistance. The Indian Embassy in Russia had earlier said it had sought consular access to the engineer and was in touch with his wife and local authorities.She pointed out that Moscow has CCTV cameras across the city and said any alleged misconduct should have been captured on camera. She questioned how the embassy could claim that Gupta had consumed alcohol and broken glass without speaking to the couple.Sneha alleged that Moscow police detained Gupta for around 48 hours without properly verifying his documents. She said Gupta was in Russia on a work visa but was detained on the mistaken assumption that he was travelling on a tourist visa.She claimed that Chandan, who is unable to speak or read Russian, was coerced into signing documents. The police allegedly threatened to file four additional cases against him if he refused to sign the protocol.Sneha said the police would not be able to substantiate the allegations in court due to a lack of evidence.Chandan, who serves as a deputy general manager at his Noida company, had traveled to Russia on a work visa. Sneha had previously alleged that Russian police arrested him without justification and were forcibly attempting to conscript him into the military. She also accused the Indian embassy in Russia of failing to provide adequate assistance.Some reports reaching India said Chandan was detained around 11.30pm (local time) on Sept 5 from Moscow’s Red Square, on charges of drunkenness and allegedly breaking the glass of a nearby ambulance.
