Mandya: Krishnarajapet MLA HT Manju and ZP chief executive officer KR Nandini inspected drinking water-scarcity-hit villages in the taluk on Wednesday. They directed officials to ensure uninterrupted supply. The officials visited Krishnapura, Borapura and Ramanahalli villages under Chaudenahalli gram panchayat and interacted with residents and local officials to assess the situation. They reviewed the existing water supply arrangements and the precautionary measures being taken to meet the shortage.Manju said no village in the taluk should face a drinking water crisis and directed officials to take preventive measures immediately. He noted that PDOs had been instructed at previous meetings to monitor the situation and stressed the need for coordination among departments.Officials reported that inadequate rainfall had affected groundwater levels and reduced borewell yields, resulting in the shortage. To maintain supply, private borewells are being hired and connected to the existing distribution network.Meanwhile, the district’s first Plastic Waste Management (PWM) unit, established under the Swachh Bharat Mission, was inaugurated at Shettahalli village in Chaudenahalli gram panchayat of Krishnarajapet taluk on Wednesday. Inaugurating the facility, MLA Manju stressed the need for effective waste management to protect the environment and improve rural sanitation. He urged residents to segregate waste at source and said the model should be replicated across the taluk. He also encouraged composting of wet waste and appreciated women’s self-help groups for their role in waste collection and management.Nandini said the project had been completed in a short period and demonstrated how plastic waste could be systematically collected, segregated, processed and baled for recycling. The facility, she said, would help convert plastic waste into a source of revenue that could support waste collection and management activities.
