Mandya: A 33-year-old contract worker died after falling into a boiler at MySugar factory in Mandya, with the deceased’s family and villagers alleging that the tragedy was a result of negligence by the factory management.The deceased has been identified as Charan Kumar of K Shettihalli in Maddur taluk. He had been working as a contract employee for the past one-and-a-half years.Charan Kumar fell into the boiler on Sept 3 and was immediately shifted to KR Hospital in Mysuru for treatment. Despite undergoing treatment, he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday. Following his death, family members and villagers staged a sit-in protest in front of MySugar factory on Wednesday, demanding appropriate compensation and justice for the deceased. Several local organisations extended their support to the protest.The protesters expressed strong resentment against MySugar chairman CD Gangadhar and managing director, alleging that neither the officials nor the chairman had visited the protest site or met the grieving family members. Tension prevailed at the factory premises as police deployed security to prevent any untoward incident. The family members continued their protest, insisting that the authorities take responsibility for the worker’s death and provide suitable compensation to the bereaved family.Bus driver killed in accidentA KSRTC bus driver was killed on the spot and eight passengers were injured in a road accident on Bengaluru-Mandya highway near Devirahalli Junction in Nagamangala taluk of Mandya district. The accident occurred when the KSRTC bus was attempting to overtake a tractor carrying iron rods. During the overtaking manoeuvre, the rods protruding from the tractor reportedly pierced through the front portion of the bus, fatally injuring the driver and causing panic among the passengers.Several passengers sustained injuries in the accident and were shifted to Adichunchanagiri Medical Sciences for treatment. The condition of some of the injured is said to be serious. The accident occurred within the limits of Bellur police station. Police have registered a case and are investigating.
