T’puram: The corporation on Wednesday halted the construction of an unauthorised four-storey building at Kuravankonam as part of its ongoing crackdown on illegal constructions in the city.A team of officials led by the town planning committee stopped the construction after finding that work had resumed secretly despite a stop memo issued by the corporation a week ago.The town planning squad had earlier issued the stop memo in the presence of Museum Police. However, the work was allegedly resumed without the corporation’s permission.According to the corporation, the construction was being carried out in violation of building regulations and without obtaining mandatory permits from the local body. The corporation authorities said that they would ensure more effective intervention to prevent unauthorised construction activities. Necessary directions would be issued to demolish constructions carried out without the required permissions.
