Pune: At least 1.22 crore voters will receive notices across Maharashtra’s 36 districts as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, said the office of chief electoral officer S Chockalingam on Saturday.The notices will be issued to two categories of voters as of the Aug 31 cut-off — those who remain unmapped and whose mapping has been completed but entries have been flagged for anomalies. A total of 62,48,281 notices will be issued in anomaly cases, while 59,75,726 will be sent to unmapped voters.Mumbai Suburban tops the list with 16.39 lakh notices, followed by Pune with 13.34 lakh and Thane with 13.17 lakh. Nagpur has 8.66 lakh notices and Nashik 7.35 lakh. Parbhani has the lowest tally at 21,774, according to the data shared by the office of chief electoral officer.Chockalingam said the claims-and-objections process would be made as smooth and accessible as possible. He said hearings would be organised close to polling booths to minimise inconvenience to voters. “The aim is to make the process as close to the voters’ homes as possible so that they do not face any troubles. The process of submitting documents and addressing anomalies has been made simpler. Booth-level officers (BLOs) have been told to collect the required documents. Voters can also upload them online through the CEO website. They can log in using their cellphone number, after which they can use the EPIC number or notice reference number for uploading the documents, receive an OTP on their registered cellphone number and upload the necessary documents. This will make the process simpler for citizens,” Chockalingam said.The election registration officers (EROs) have been issued detailed instructions for processing claims and objections against the draft electoral rolls prepared under the SIR. The officials directed to conduct thorough verification before adding, deleting or correcting voter entries.The draft electoral rolls were published on Aug 31. Voters can file claims and objections till Sept 30. The notice and disposal process will continue till Oct 29, after which the final electoral rolls are scheduled to be published on Nov 4. The instructions issued on Sept 4 state that people whose names are missing from the draft roll but are otherwise eligible can apply for inclusion through Form 6. Those completing 18 years of age on or before Oct 1, 2026, can apply for enrolment with the prescribed declaration.Where the notices are concentratedMumbai Suburban alone will see 16,39,628 notices — the highest tally in the state — followed by Pune (13,34,165), Thane (13,17,184), Nagpur (8,66,138) and Nashik (7,34,788). Together, these five districts account for nearly half of the state’s total notices, reflecting the high number of urban voters and the greater incidence of migration, address changes and data discrepancies in these areas.At the other end, Parbhani (21,774), Hingoli (35,826) and Sindhudurg (43,442) have the lowest notice counts.The unmapped-anomaly split also shows a sharp contrast across districts. In Mumbai Suburban and Thane unmapped voters — 10,76,658 and 7,71,148, respectively — far outnumber those flagged for anomalies, pointing to migration and address-related issues as a major factor.
