Kanpur: Two motorcyclists were killed after a speeding truck carrying Indane gas cylinders hit their motorcycle while overtaking it in Kanpur’s Kalyanpur police station area on Friday night. The truck driver allegedly tried to flee, but police chased the vehicle and intercepted it near Panki canal before taking him into custody and seizing the truck.Eyewitnesses said the victims were travelling towards Panki when the truck, coming from the Panki canal side, struck their motorcycle. Both men fell onto the road and came under the truck’s wheels, dying on the spot. Residents nearby alerted police by calling the emergency helpline 112.Police identified the deceased as Sachin Valmiki (25), a resident of Maswanpur-Rawatpur, and his neighbour Suraj (35).Sachin’s brother Nitin said Sachin, the youngest member of the family, worked in a private job and had married Soni about three months ago. He had left home on Friday evening with Suraj and was travelling to Panki on a motorcycle.The family submitted a written complaint and sought action against the truck driver. Kalyanpur police station in-charge Keshav Kumar Tiwari said a case had been registered on the basis of the complaint and further action was underway.
