Panaji: Sanquelim has become the sixth rain gauge station in Goa to cross the 2,000-mm cumulative rainfall mark this monsoon season, as rainfall remained widespread across the state, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).The milestone places Sanquelim among the state’s highest rainfall-receiving stations this season. The other stations already above the 2,000-mm mark are Valpoi (2,707.3mm), Dharbandora (2,716.3mm), Sanguem (2,580.9mm), Quepem (2,388.1mm) and Canacona (2,046.2mm).Despite several stations recording more than 2,000 mm, Goa remains below its normal rainfall for the season. From June 1 to Sep 4, Goa’s area-weighted rainfall stood at 1,935.7mm, against the normal 2,750.3mm. This amounts to a nearly 30% rainfall deficit.According to the 100-inch rainfall milestone, three rain gauge stations (Dharbandora, Valpoi and Sanguem) have crossed the threshold.
