Poonch, Sep 3: District Police Poonch on Thursday inaugurated the Police Martyrs T20 Cricket Tournament 2026 at Sports Stadium, Poonch, as a tribute to the brave police personnel who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by SSP Poonch Shafqat Bhat who highlighted the importance of remembering and honouring the sacrifices of police martyrs. Additional SP Poonch Dr. Ajay Sharma DySP DAR Shashikant Sharma and SHO Poonch Insp Aejaz Wani were also present on the occasion.
The ceremony was attended by several prominent personalities, senior citizens and members of civil society, including Jasbir Singh, Principal, Degree College Poonch; Tariq Khan, President, Shaheed DySP Manjeet Singh Memorial Volleyball Club Poonch; Mohd. Qasim, District Youth Services & Sports Officer, Poonch, Khetarpal Sharma, President, Sanatan Dharam Sabha Poonch; Taj Mir; Surjan Singh; Sardar Dilbag Singh, Social Activist; Advocate Iftikhar Ahmed Bazmi and Rajesh Raina.
A large number of players, police personnel, sports enthusiasts and members of the public participated in the inaugural programme, reflecting strong community support and the spirit of sportsmanship. The event also highlighted the strong bond between District Police Poonch and the local community.
The tournament is aimed at commemorating the supreme sacrifices of police martyrs while providing a constructive platform for youth to showcase their sporting talent.
It seeks to promote discipline, teamwork, sportsmanship and a healthy lifestyle, besides encouraging greater youth participation in sports and strengthening community engagement.
District Police Poonch reiterated its commitment to promoting sports and meaningful youth engagement as a means of fostering positive values, camaraderie, discipline and a spirit of unity in society.
