Prayagraj: With the new academic session underway, Allahabad University administration, like last year, has put in place a dedicated mentoring system to help freshers navigate their first year on campus. The university has appointed teachers from various departments and centres as mentors for students admitted in the 2026-27 academic session.The classes for the new session have already begun, and all teachers have been asked to remain available in their respective departments and centres from 9 am to 5 pm during office hours. The teaching faculty, entrusted with the responsibility of mentoring the new entrants, will guide the students and help them address both academic and personal concerns.The mentoring system is aimed at helping freshers become familiar with the university’s academic environment and departmental functioning. Mentors will assist students in understanding academic procedures, study arrangements and other activities, besides helping them deal with difficulties they may face after admission.The list of 84 mentors includes teachers from a wide range of departments and centres, covering subjects such as Ancient History, Culture and Archaeology, Anthropology, Biochemistry, Botany, Chemistry, Commerce and Business Administration, Economics, Education, Environmental Sciences, Geography, Journalism and Mass Communication, Mathematics, Law, Hindi, Sanskrit, Philosophy, Psychology, Political Science, Physics, Statistics, Music and Performing Arts, Sociology, Urdu, Visual Arts and Zoology.“The university administration has introduced the arrangement at the department level so that students can receive guidance from faculty members familiar with their academic environment,” said the public relations officer of AU, Prof Jaya Kapoor. The mentors will serve as an accessible point of contact for not only freshers but old students too, helping them adjust to university life and resolve issues that could otherwise affect their academic progress, she added.
