Prayagraj: Thousands of commuters, including office-goers, were trapped in a massive traffic jam for hours following road patch work and breaking down of vehicles on Phaphamau trisection – Ghoda chauraha on the Prayagraj-Lucknow highway on Monday. The traffic was restored after adequate traffic police authorities, along with thana police, rushed to the spot and cleared the route.DCP (Traffic) Neeraj Pandey told TOI, “ Following the road patch and repair work between Teliyarganj and Phaphamau along with breaking down of several vehicles, jam like situation occured several times. As Monday was the first working day of week, there was additional traffic load on the busiest Phaphamau Bridge on the Prayagraj-Lucknow highway and led to snarls on the route. Both traffic and police teams were deployed to clear the route on both sides of Phaphamau bridge.”Traffic police authorities claimed that the majority of commuters, particularly two-wheeler riders, were spotted jumping the lane. A long queue of vehicles was seen on the route between Teliyarganj and Shantipuram during the road jam. “We were stuck in the snarl for around one and half hours, and there is no alternative route to avoid the packed route,” said Sudha, one of the trapped commuters.
