Patna: A national-level sports complex will be developed at Nehru Stadium in Darbhanga at an estimated cost of Rs 200 crore, BJP state president and Darbhanga Urban MLA Sanjay Saraogi said on Friday.Saraogi, along with CM Samrat Choudhary, reviewed the proposed redevelopment of Nehru Stadium and the Centre of Excellence at a meeting in Patna late Thursday evening. A presentation on the proposed cricket stadium and sports complex was also examined during the meeting.Saraogi said the project would be another major step towards strengthening sports infrastructure in Bihar and providing young athletes from the Mithilanchal region access to modern training facilities in their own city. He said the NDA govt, under CM Samrat, was committed to giving a new direction and momentum to the state’s development.Spread over around 10 acres, the complex will include a national-level cricket stadium with high-mast lighting for day-night matches, a hybrid turf pitch and a modern pavilion. An indoor multi-purpose hall will have a swimming pool, boxing ring, judo-wrestling arena, four badminton courts, basketball and squash facilities, besides a gym.The project will also include sports science, biomechanics and medical facilities, along with a 100-bed hostel, guesthouse and dining hall. Provisions for lawn tennis, volleyball, net practice pitches, solar power and multi-level parking are also planned.Saraogi said the project would help Darbhanga emerge as a major sports hub and enable talented youths of Mithilanchal to compete at national and international levels.
