Patna: A day after CM Samrat Choudhary announced Bihar’s first dedicated women’s university, a proposal has emerged to name the institution after legendary social reformer Savitribai Phule.Senior BJP functionary Suheli Mehta on Friday urged the state govt to honour India’s first female teacher by naming the proposed university after her. Mehta, principal of Patna University’s Vanijya Mahavidyalaya, has written to the CM seeking the recognition.In her communication, she highlighted Savitribai Phule’s contributions to women’s education and empowerment, saying naming Bihar’s proposed women’s university after her would be a fitting tribute to her legacy.The CM announced on Thursday the institution would be entirely managed by women, with women occupying academic and administrative positions from professors to the vice-chancellor.The announcement has been widely welcomed in academic and political circles. The state govt is yet to announce the university’s final name and location.
