Kanpur: A drunken quarrel between two brothers in Unnao’s Chak Jamalpur village turned fatal on Sunday night when the elder brother allegedly struck his younger sibling, 23, in the chest with a sickle, killing him. The accused, who was also injured in the fight, was arrested and admitted to Bichhiya Health Centre.Dilip, a resident of Chak Jamalpur village in the Kotwali area, lived in Mumbai with his elder brother Shrikishan and their families. In June, Dilip’s younger brother Kuldeep was to be married, and all of them had come to attend the wedding. Since then, they had been staying in the village and doing farming.Around 10.30 pm on Sunday, Shrikishan reached home in an intoxicated state and began abusing Dilip’s wife. When Dilip objected, Shrikishan became furious. The two brothers first came to blows and later attacked each other with sticks. A stick hit Shrikishan on the head, causing grievous injuries. Seeing blood flowing, he picked up a sickle lying nearby and struck Dilip in the chest. The blow was so forceful that Dilip collapsed on the spot.Family members took both injured men to the health centre, where doctors declared Dilip dead. After receiving information about the murder, the Kotwal reached the health centre, took the injured accused into custody and, after removing him from Purwa Health Centre, got him admitted to Bichhiya.Kotwal Bhavan Singh Maurya said, “An FIR will be registered based on the family’s complaint.”
