Patna: Thousands of commuters in Muzaffarpur are set to get relief from chronic traffic congestion with the approval of a Rs 44.76-crore project to widen the 4.5-km Ramdayalu Nagar-Chandni Chowk road to four lanes. The long-pending project has received the required clearances, and construction is expected to begin soon.According to officials of the road construction department (RCD) and Bihar Rajya Pul Nirman Nigam Ltd (BRPNNL), the long-pending project has secured approvals from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and other concerned agencies.RCD secretary Pankaj Kumar Pal said all NHAI-related formalities had been completed. “An NOC for the entire project has been issued by the NHAI project director and project implementation unit, Muzaffarpur, clearing the way for execution of the work,” he said.The Ramdayalu Nagar-Chandni Chowk corridor witnesses heavy movement of private and commercial vehicles, often resulting in long traffic jams. Officials said the widened road would improve traffic flow and reduce congestion.Pal said the project would help save commuting time and fuel while also improving road safety. Better infrastructure is expected to enhance connectivity and provide easier access to business establishments along the route.Officials described the project as a key step towards strengthening Muzaffarpur’s urban infrastructure and supporting the city’s future growth.Once completed, the upgraded corridor is expected to improve connectivity between key parts of the city and serve as a more efficient transport link for residents and businesses.
