Chandigarh: The municipal corporation (MC) Chandigarh Friday reviewed the implementation of Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules, 2026 at a meeting of the special cell constituted for monitoring compliance with the regulations.The special cell was formed following directions from the Supreme Court to oversee, review and ensure effective implementation of the SWM Rules across the Union Territory.During the meeting, officials conducted a comprehensive review of ongoing waste management activities, including collection, source segregation, transportation, processing and scientific disposal of municipal solid waste. Department-wise progress was assessed, with officials directed to strictly adhere to the provisions of the SWM Rules.Chairperson of the special cell, Isha Kamboj, stressed the need for coordinated action among departments and stakeholders to promote sustainable waste management practices and maintain Chandigarh’s cleanliness standards.She also asked officials to expedite pending works and submit regular progress reports to facilitate effective monitoring and timely implementation of prescribed measures.
