Kanpur: A 23-year-old woman died during treatment after her condition deteriorated after delivery at a private hospital in Kanpur on Tuesday night. The woman’s family staged protests alleging negligence by doctors and hospital staff.Kalyanpur police arrived at the hospital on being informed and initiated an investigation after the family submitted a written complaint.Vipin, a farmer from Lal village in Rasoolabad of Kanpur Dehat, said on Sunday night his wife Gudiya had labour pain. He took her to a doctor in their village who referred her to a private medical facility in Kalyanpur.The hospital staff said that they would have to perform a C-section for the delivery and asked them to deposit Rs 60,000. Gudiya delivered her first child, a daughter, through the operation, but her condition started worsening.The staff cited infection and asked for about Rs 1.5 lakh. As her condition became critical, the doctors referred her to another hospital.The family took her to another hospital where doctors declared her dead. The family then returned to the private hospital and staged a protest alleging medical negligence.ACMO Dr Ramit Rastogi said the matter would be investigated and action would be taken based on the findings.
