Mysuru: Around 219 govt primary schools across the four districts of the Mysuru region, including 35 in Mysuru district, recorded zero admissions for the 2026-27 academic year. Hassan reported the highest number of such schools, with 103 primary schools registering no admissions.According to data shared by primary and secondary education minister Madhu Bangarappa in response to a question by Mysuru-Mandya MLC K Vivekananda, two high schools in the region also recorded zero admissions.The highest number of primary schools with no admissions was reported in KR Pet taluk of Mandya district, where 23 schools did not admit a single student. Except for the Mysuru South academic district, schools with zero admissions were reported in all taluks.In Mysuru district, seven primary schools each in KR Nagar and Periyapatna taluks recorded zero admissions, while six schools each in Hunsur and HD Kote reported none. Nanjangud recorded four such schools, T Narasipura three, and Mysuru North and Mysuru Rural one each.Teachers attributed the decline partly to the growing popularity of Karnataka Public Schools (KPS). In his reply, the minister clarified that none of the schools would be closed.
