Patna: A 70-year-old man and his six-year-old granddaughter were killed in an attack at their house in Muzaffarpur’s Sahebganj area on Tuesday afternoon, with police suspecting a family dispute as the possible motive behind the fatal attack. A person was arrested in this connection.The incident took place in Pratap Patti village under Sahebganj police station area.Muzaffarpur (Rural) SP Rajesh Kumar Singh Prabhakar identified the deceased as Murtaza Ansari alias Bhola Ansari and his granddaughter Anam Khatoon. He said the prime accused, Altaf Ansari, son of Bashir Ansari, allegedly entered the house and attacked the family members.According to the SP, Murtaza sustained serious injuries in the attack and died at the spot. The accused allegedly then attacked Murtaza’s son, Mohammad Shamim Ansari, who was seriously injured and shifted to SKMCH for treatment. Anam was also critically injured and taken to a primary health centre, where she later died.Police have arrested Altaf, who also sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment in police custody, the SP said.Police recovered a sharp-edged weapon believed to have been used in the attack and found bloodstains at the scene. An FSL team has been called to collect forensic evidence. The bodies were sent for postmortem after inquest proceedings.The SP said the accused and the victims were relatives and that there had been a dispute between the two families. However, the exact motive for the attack has not yet been established.Police said a detailed investigation is underway and further action will be taken based on the evidence.
