Panaji: All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Mallikarjun Kharge’s Goa visit began on a setback for Congress, with at least 100 booth-level agents (BLAs) and workers resigning from their posts ahead of his meeting with them. The BLAs informed the chief electoral officer of their decision.“I was a BLA and I have resigned from my constituency. I don’t think Congress is interested in forming govt in 2027. We have not been taken into confidence and right now I don’t know who is the head of the party in Valpoi,” said Ashley Pinho, Congress BLA for Part 8 in Valpoi. Some BLAs said they were unaware of the purpose of Kharge’s meeting. “We have not resigned from the party as we are loyal Congressmen, but the way things are going in Congress is very disappointing,” a BLA said.Pinho also alleged that senior Congress functionaries were unwilling to visit Valpoi.Meanwhile, BJP Yuva Morcha workers attempted to stop Kharge’s convoy as he left the Dabolim airport.“BJP has made a lot of efforts to demoralise Congress,” state Congress president Girish Chodankar said. “Since the day Kharge’s arrival was announced, BJP has been agitated.”
