The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Allahabad High Court not to proceed with the proceedings in a case concerning allegations of disproportionate assets against Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.
The direction came after Gandhi challenged the Allahabad High Court’s orders directing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to verify allegations that he possessed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. Gandhi had approached the apex court seeking relief against the High Court’s directions.
The matter before the Allahabad High Court originated from a petition filed by Karnataka-based S Vignesh Shishir, a BJP worker, who alleged that Gandhi had assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. Shishir had earlier also filed petitions raising allegations concerning Gandhi’s citizenship.
