Gurgaon: After light rain in parts of the city on Thursday, more rainfall is likely on Friday as the monsoon axis shifts northwards. Isolated heavy rain is forecast in Haryana, with some parts of the NCR likely to see short, intense showers.The city recorded a maximum temperature of 35.6 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 27.2 degrees Celsius at the Gurgaon KVK station on Thursday. Compared with Wednesday, the maximum temperature was 1.6 degrees Celsius higher, while the minimum was 5.2 degrees Celsius higher. Hot and humid conditions prevailed through the day.Light rain was reported in parts of Gurgaon, but rainfall varied sharply across the district. Gurgaon tehsil recorded 34mm between 8am and 5pm, while Kadipur and Harsaru received 45mm each. Wazirabad recorded 4mm and Badshahpur 1mm. Sohna, Manesar, Pataudi and Farrukhnagar remained dry during the period.Independent weatherman Navdeep Dahiya said the combination of hot, humid conditions and the northward shift of the monsoon axis could trigger isolated thunderstorms over the NCR on Friday. He said parts of Gurgaon, Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad and Faridabad could receive sudden moderate to heavy showers, with individual spells lasting around 20 to 40 minutes.The activity on Friday is expected to remain highly localised. Dahiya said only 20% to 30% of the region could receive such rain, while large parts of the NCR may remain dry.India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast fairly widespread to widespread rainfall over Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi on Aug 14 and 15, with another such spell expected on Aug 17. It has also forecast heavy rainfall over parts of Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi from Aug 14 to 19.For Gurgaon, the forecast points to short, potentially intense and highly localised showers rather than an all-day spell of rain. The broader IMD forecast means the possibility of heavy rain will remain through Aug 19.The forecast comes after an active week of monsoon weather across Haryana. IMD recorded thunderstorms and lightning on six of the seven days between Aug 7 and 13. Heavy rainfall occurred on one day and very heavy rainfall on another.Gurgaon received an average rainfall of 73.5mm during the week from Aug 7 to 13, against a normal of 41.4mm. Its average cumulative rainfall since June 1 stood at 334mm, 10% above the normal of 304.8mm.However, rainfall in the latest 24-hour period was limited. Gurgaon recorded a district average of just 0.1mm between 8.30am Wednesday and 8.30am Thursday.
