Kanpur: Police on Wednesday arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl on multiple occasions and later blackmailing her into handing over cash and jewellery worth several lakhs of rupees in the Ghatampur area of Kanpur.The FIR in the case was lodged on the complaint of the victim’s father. According to the complaint, the accused allegedly lured the girl into a relationship and sexually assaulted her on several occasions.The complainant further alleged that the accused blackmailed the girl, threatened to kill her and coerced her into giving him Rs 1.20 lakh in cash along with jewellery worth lakhs.He also alleged that the girl disclosed the matter to her family when questioned by them. The family later demanded the return of the cash and jewellery, following which the accused allegedly began threatening them.Police said the accused was sent to jail and further legal proceedings are underway.
