Prayagraj: Allahabad University’s Hindi department has revised nearly 30% of its undergraduate syllabus under National Education Policy (NEP)-2020, replacing Asghar Wajahat’s popular play ‘Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya’ with Bhishm Sahni’s ‘Kabira Khada Bazaar Mein’ in the BA curriculum.The revised syllabus, approved by the Board of Bachelorate and the Faculty Board, introduces several new works across Hindi literature, including drama, literary history and other genres.Head of the department, Prof Kumar Virendra said the changes have been made as part of the university’s exercise to align the curriculum with the objectives of NEP-2020. Under the revised BA Hindi syllabus, students in the second semester will study Sahni’s ‘Kabira Khada Bazaar Mein’ as part of Hindi drama., ‘Teen Apahij’, written by former professor of the physics department, Vipin Agrawal, has also been included in the second-semester syllabus. The addition is aimed at exposing students to a wider range of literary forms and writers.The third-semester syllabus has also undergone significant changes. Along with Tulsidas’ Ayodhya text, Chitrakoot Gyan Sabha has now been added. The section dealing with the history of Hindi literature has also been expanded to include the sources and traditions of writing.The revised section gives special space to writers associated with Prayagraj, including Ramkumar Verma, Lakshmisagar and Mohan Awasthi. The department said the additions would help students develop a broader understanding of different periods, literary genres and writers in Hindi literature.Following the approval of the revisions at the departmental and faculty levels, students will now be taught according to the updated curriculum, which the department expects will provide greater diversity and a wider perspective in the study of Hindi literature.
