Mysuru: The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has lauded the Mysuru City Corporation’s (MCC) cleanliness initiative undertaken under the Freedom from Garbage campaign as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission.The ministry, through its X handle Swachh Bharat Urban, shared photographs of MCC officials clearing 83 tonnes of waste from Chikka Veeranna Road (CV Road) and praised the civic body’s efforts. Accompanying the post was the message: “As India is all set to celebrate 80 years of Independence, Mysuru is advancing the vision of Freedom from Garbage through the 80 Waste-Free Zones initiative. A cleanliness drive at Chikka Veeranna Road cleared nearly 83 tonnes of waste, reinforcing the spirit of Swachhata.”The appreciation comes after MCC, led by commissioner MK Savitha, conducted a major cleanliness drive on Wednesday at Chikka Veeranna Road in Mandi Mohalla as part of the pre-Independence Day Freedom from Garbage campaign.During the six-hour operation, held from 6 am to 12 noon, civic workers removed around 83 tonnes of accumulated waste from the stretch. The waste included mixed garbage, metal scrap, plastic waste, and construction and demolition debris.Deputy commissioner Lakshmikanth Reddy, MCC additional commissioner BN Veena, MCC superintending engineer Sindhu, among others, all took part in the drive. They later appealed to residents and the public to segregate waste and hand over to MCC workers for better waste management.
