Kanpur: Kanpurites are likely to receive more rainfall in the next 24 hours, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting active monsoon conditions across all districts of the Kanpur division. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms is expected in most areas, while some places may witness heavy showers.In Kanpur Nagar, the sky is likely to remain heavily clouded throughout the day, with moderate to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms expected. The probability of rain has been pegged at 80% to 92%. The maximum temperature is expected to remain between 30 and 32 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may stay around 26 to 27 degrees Celsius. With humidity levels likely to cross 90%, residents may experience sultry weather conditions.The city witnessed intermittent light drizzle during the morning and daytime on Thursday. The maximum temperature was recorded at 28.4 degrees Celsius, 0.4 degrees lower than Wednesday, while the minimum temperature settled at 24.6 degrees Celsius, making the night relatively comfortable.Kanpur received 7.2 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours. As the showers occurred intermittently during the day and south-westerly winds blew at a speed of 7.3 kmph, weather conditions remained pleasant despite high humidity. The maximum and minimum relative humidity levels were recorded at 98% and 92%, respectively, while the sky remained overcast throughout the day.S N Sunil Pandey, weather expert at CSA University, said atmospheric moisture, the development of new weather systems and increased moisture flow were likely to keep the Kanpur division cloudy from August 7 to 9.“There is a possibility of intermittent strong winds and scattered light to moderate rainfall accompanied by gusty winds, thunderstorms and lightning in isolated areas,” he said.Pandey added that strong surface winds may continue over the coming days, though brief spells of sunshine are also likely.
