Nagpur: Remembering the human cost of India’s Partition will be the central theme of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) Independence Day outreach this year, with the civic body set to observe Partition Horrors Remembrance Day on August 14 as part of the nationwide Har Ghar Tiranga 2026 campaign.The Har Ghar Tiranga campaign will be organised across Nagpur from August 9 to 17. NMC will distribute 1.75 lakh tricolour flags across the city with financial assistance from local MLAs through their discretionary funds and the civic body’s own resources.A programme will be organised at Vande Mataram Udyan in Bajeria, where public representatives, freedom fighters’ families, citizens, students and civic officials will pay homage to the millions who lost their lives or were displaced during the Partition of 1947.The programme is aimed at preserving memories of one of the largest forced migrations in recorded history while reinforcing the values of national unity, social harmony and communal peace.The event is expected to include messages encouraging the younger generations to draw lessons from history. Municipal schools and economically weaker localities will receive priority during the distribution drive.Mayor Neeta Thakre appealed to the citizens to participate in the campaign by hoisting the national flag at their homes while also ensuring that it is displayed and handled in accordance with the Flag Code. The campaign will also include a tricolour rally, exhibitions, cultural and Independence Day events.
