Lucknow: An 11-year-old schoolboy was killed after being run over by a school bus while getting off the vehicle in Balrampur on Tuesday afternoon. The bus driver allegedly drove away without ensuring that the child had safely alighted, police said.The incident occurred in the Dehat Kotwali police station area when the school bus dropped students in Chilhikala village.The deceased, identified as Satyam Verma, was the son of Ram Niwas Verma and a student of Class I at Sushila Devi Inter College.According to police and eyewitnesses, the school bus had reached the village to drop Satyam home as part of its regular route. As the child was getting off the bus, the driver allegedly moved the vehicle forward.The sudden movement caused Satyam to lose his balance and fall onto the road, after which he was run over by the rear wheel of the bus. Local residents rushed to rescue the child, but he had succumbed to his injuries before any help could be provided.The victim’s family alleged that the accident occurred due to the driver’s negligence, claiming that he drove the bus away without checking whether the child had safely alighted. They further alleged that the driver fled the spot with the bus immediately after the incident.On receiving information, police reached the scene and initiated legal proceedings. The child’s body was taken into custody and further action was initiated in accordance with the law.Station house officer Girjesh Tiwari said an FIR has been registered and an investigation is underway. Police are working to identify and apprehend the driver while examining the circumstances that led to the fatal accident.Meanwhile, manager of Sushila Devi Inter College, Vijay Kumar Pandey said he was out of station and would present the school’s version after gathering complete details about the incident.
