Madhubani: A joint team of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Bihar Police and Bihar STF recovered 200 grams of suspected brown sugar, Nepalese currency worth Rs1.59 lakh, two motorcycles and other items, and arrested three persons near the India-Nepal border, an SSB press release said on Tuesday.Acting on specific intelligence, a joint team constituted on Aug 3 conducted a raid at Khairamath South Ward, about 3 km inside Indian territory from the international border under the jurisdiction of Betaunha border outpost.According to the SSB, all three arrested persons are Indian nationals. Two are residents of Khairamath village under Jaynagar police station, while the third is from Kamlabadi village, also under the same police station.During preliminary questioning, the accused allegedly told investigators that the suspected brown sugar had been procured from the Malda region of West Bengal and was being divided into small packets for illegal sale to buyers from Nepal in the border area. Police said the claim is being verified and further investigation is underway to identify others allegedly involved in the smuggling racket.The recovered suspected narcotics, Nepalese currency, motorcycles, mobile phones and the arrested persons have been handed over to Jaynagar police for further legal action, the SSB said.
