Hyderabad: Admissions to Class 11 in Telangana govt junior colleges have increased by nearly 14% this academic year, according to the Directorate of Intermediate Education. The department revealed that the enrolment numbers rose from 75,000 in 2025-26 to 85,453 in 2026-27, bringing the total enrolment across the two years to 1,64,730.
Officials attributed this increase to several reforms like NCERT-aligned first-year syllabi, QR code-enabled textbooks, faculty development programmes and collaborations with companies such as IBM and Hetero Pharmaceuticals to strengthen employability. They said the company collaborations have helped 2,000 students obtain placements and apprenticeships.
The figures were shared during a one-day orientation programme for District Intermediate Education Officers and principals of govt junior colleges at the Telangana Board of Intermediate Education headquarters in Hyderabad, on Monday. The programme focused on implementation of Samagra Shiksha interventions, effective utilisation of grants through the SNA-SPARSH portal, financial management, monitoring, and accountability in fund utilisation.
Sessions on the POSH Act were also conducted during the orientation.
