Kanpur: The body of a 35-year-old man, identified as Pankaj Singh, was found in a canal in Dau village under the Asoha police station area of Unnao district on Sunday morning.Upon receiving information, police reached the spot, took the body into custody and sent it for postmortem examination.According to family members, Pankaj had left home at around 7 am on Saturday and did not return home that night.They said that on Sunday morning, they received information that a body had been found in a canal about 2 km from the village. Family members and villagers then rushed to the spot and identified the deceased as Pankaj.The family alleged that Pankaj was murdered by a fellow villager, identified as Subhash Singh, who later dumped the body in the canal to destroy evidence.Demanding an impartial probe, the family urged police to take strict action against the accused.Inspector Phool Singh said police were investigating the case as a suspicious death.“Further legal action will be taken on the basis of the postmortem report, evidence collected from the scene and the allegations made by the family members,” he said.
