T’puram: CPM state secretariat has said that chief minister V D Satheesan must understand the grave situation of monsoon devastation and sea erosion and step in to help the people.“Landslides and flooding have destroyed many homes. Eight people have already died, and eight others are missing. Agricultural damage is also extensive. More families than those staying in relief camps are suffering. People living in insecurity are placing their hopes in the state govt and the CM,” CPM secretariat said in a statement. At a time when people everywhere are in distress, the govt machinery must function with maximum efficiency, the statement said.“As the chairperson of the disaster management authority, the CM cannot simply assign duties to ministers and stand aside. Protecting the lives and property of the people is the foremost duty of an administrator. Failing to do so can only be seen as a challenge to the people,” it said.
