Patna: A man was arrested in Muzaffarpur district on Sunday in connection with the murder of a woman and her six-year-old son, whose bodies were recovered from bushes behind the NTPC plant in Kanti. Police suspect the killings were linked to the woman’s alleged relationship with the accused.The body of Manju Kumari alias Manju Devi (29) was recovered on July 26 and identified on July 31. Her son, Aryan, who had been missing since the same day, was found dead on Aug 1 about 50 metres from the spot where his mother’s body was discovered.Police said Aryan’s body was in a highly decomposed state when local residents alerted the authorities. The body was recovered and sent for post-mortem examination.Muzaffarpur SSP Kantesh Kumar Mishra said an FIR was registered on the complaint of the woman’s father and Vikas Paswan, a named accused in the case, had been arrested.“The exact cause of death will be known after the post-mortem report. Raids are being conducted to arrest other named accused,” the SSP said.According to investigators, Manju had separated from her husband in 2025 and started working at a private hospital, where she came into contact with Vikas. Police are probing whether disputes arising out of the relationship led to the murders.Sources said Manju married in 2020 and had two sons. Her younger son, aged three, lives with his maternal grandmother, while Aryan lived with his mother.Police are also examining whether the child was killed after witnessing his mother’s murder, though officials said this angle has not been confirmed. Further investigation is underway.
