Jaipur: Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) Saturday approved a proposal to construct an underpass beneath Sardar Patel Marg connecting Bais Godam Circle with Rajmahal Palace Junction. The project has been planned ahead of the opening of Civil Lines railway overbridge (RoB) to ensure smoother and signal-free traffic movement on one of the city’s busiest corridors.JDA Commissioner Siddharth Mahajan said, “The underpass will provide seamless connectivity between Bais Godam Circle and Chomu House Circle once Civil Lines RoB becomes operational. Traffic from Ajmer Road heading towards Rajmahal Palace Junction is expected to rise after the RoB opens, with many vehicles likely to use Jamnalal Bajaj Marg to access the bridge.“Anticipating the increased traffic volume, the proposed underpass has been planned as a long-term solution to meet future transport needs,” said Mahajan.According to JDA officials, the underpass will be around 800 metre to 1km long. It is proposed to begin near Bais Godam Circle and emerge near Rajmahal Palace Junction, likely in front of the BJP state headquarters. The exact alignment, along with entry and exit points, will be finalised during preparation of the detailed project report (DPR).Once completed, vehicles travelling between Bais Godam Circle and Chomu House Circle in both directions will use the underpass, while traffic heading towards Civil Lines RoB or other destinations along Sardar Patel Marg will continue to use the surface road.Officials added that the entry from the Bais Godam side is being designed to avoid diversions, as vehicles from Sahakar Marg and Hawa Sadak Road are currently restricted from entering Sardar Patel Marg at the circle.
