Mumbai: State govt on Friday issued a formal directive asking DGP to immediately complete the legal process for withdrawing criminal cases registered against students, youths and others who participated in the recent CJP-supported protests in the state. State govt also asked DGP not to take any punitive actions against the youth named in the cases. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis earlier asked additional chief secretary (home) Manisha Mhaiskar to initiate the process of withdrawing the cases.The home department will compile details of all cases across the state against CJP-supported protests and initiate the necessary process for their withdrawal after issuing a separate order. Govt can withdraw registered police cases only after a chargesheet is filed or after police have submitted closure reports in courts.On Saturday, Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray demanded more clarity over the issue after posting a message on his social media account, stating, “While the bjp regime in Maharashtra has issued a notification about withdrawing cases in Maharashtra, there is still confusion at large over how it’ll be done. I have written to the DG, Maharashtra Police, seeking clarity and an SOP that shall be applicable to all the cases, across the state, for all those who stepped out to protest for India, in support of @Wangchuk66’s hunger strike and the protest by @abhijeet_dipke….”
