Bhubaneswar: A Bargarh court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment in a 2021 murder case, bringing to a close a trial that lasted more than five years. The court of additional district and sessions Judge, Bargarh, also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the accused on Friday, with an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment in case of default.Accused Bharatu Dansena was convicted of the murder of Rukmani Bag.The case pertains to Ambabhona police station. As per the complaint, Rukmani Bag was allegedly assaulted with a bamboo stick near Patharghat Nala at Dwari village in Bargarh district on Feb 24, 2021. She was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead.A case was lodged in this connection, following which police completed the investigation in 115 days and filed charge sheet on June 19, 2021. Charges were framed on Dec 15, 2021, while the trial lasted 1,685 days before the court pronounced its verdict.
