Pune: Minister for Marathi language and industries Uday Samant on Thursday said substantial funds would be allocated for the 100th Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan to be held in the city early next year.The state cabinet minister said keeping in mind the importance of the historic event, efforts should be made to reach out to Marathi speakers around the world. He held a meeting at Maharashtra Sahitya Parishad to discuss the preparations for the literary meet with the Parishad’s president, Yogesh Soman, president of Samarth Youth Foundation Rajesh Pandey and other officer bearers.He said a decision had been taken to provide necessary funds for the Yuva Sahitya Sammelan, under which the Marathi language department would host 12 Sahitya Sammelans abroad in collaboration with Maharashtra Sahitya Parishad and Samarth Yuva Foundation, in the run-up to to the marque event in early 2027. He said future literary conferences should be planned on the same lines.Samant said the hundred-year-old tradition of Marathi Sahitya Sammelan was a testimony to the cultural prosperity of Marathi society. Many literary figures, poets, writers and rural literature workers made valuable contributions to enrich Marathi literature.The minister said a “Translation Committee” would be established this year in the name of Yashwantrao Chavan to make quality literature in other Indian and world languages available in Marathi. Separate funds would be allocated for it. He also said a programme, called “Majhi Marathi, Abhijat Marathi”, would be organised in 13 universities in the state.Samant said a meeting on various issues, including organising the literary meet, would be held soon in the presence of the chief minister.
