Nagpur: Two days after torrential rain triggered widespread flooding across the city, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Thursday launched a survey of waterlogging-prone areas to identify lapses and prepare corrective measures.Municipal commissioner Vipin Itankar deputed all three additional commissioners to inspect affected localities, roads, schools, railway underbridges and underpasses across the 10 zones.Additional commissioner-in charge Milind Meshram surveyed Laxmi Nagar, Dharampeth and Dhantoli zones; additional commissioner Ankit inspected Hanuman Nagar, Nehru Nagar and Lakadganj zones; while additional commissioner Murugatham covered Gandhibagh, Satranjipura, Ashi Nagar and Mangalwari zones.The civic administration’s preliminary assessment attributed Tuesday’s flooding to a lack of coordination among agencies, inadequate stormwater drains alongside cement roads, and lapses during AMRUT water and sewerage works. Officials also pointed to poor pre-monsoon planning involving MahaMetro, PWD and other executing agencies.The health department surveyed 1,430 houses in 15 flood-hit localities, examined 15 suspected infectious disease cases, collected six contaminated water samples, distributed ORS packets and provided 470 chlorine tablets. Mayor Neeta Thakre said district authorities have also been asked to conduct damage assessment surveys so that compensation can be provided to affected residents after verification.
