Hyderabad: The Bengaluru unit of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted searches in Hyderabad and Bengaluru on Tuesday in connection with a drugs case.Sources said the case was initially registered by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Subsequently, the ED registered an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and launched an investigation into the alleged money laundering angle.According to ED sources, all its units across the country are taking up NDPS Act cases to investigate the proceeds of crime and trace money laundering linked to narcotics offences.However, the ED declined to disclose details of the searches conducted in Hyderabad and Bengaluru on Tuesday.Earlier, in Feb, the NCB arrested a Brazilian national at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad after allegedly seizing cocaine worth several crores of rupees from the passenger.
