Prayagraj: Deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Tuesday said while govt stands with students, some anti-BJP parties and “anarchic elements” were trying to hijack the student movement and disturb law and order under the guise of protests.“Students raised legitimate demands, which govt addressed. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken strict measures on the issue, including introducing a bill in Parliament to curb paper leaks,” Maurya said during his three-day visit to Prayagraj.Interacting with party workers, he urged them to keep a close watch on such elements. Referring to the eve-teasing allegations made by the daughter of a former BJP MLA during the July 24 protest at Jantar Mantar, Maurya alleged that “goons affiliated with the SP, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party had infiltrated the students’ protest”.“I condemn such incidents,” he said.Maurya also asked party workers to actively spread awareness about govt’s development initiatives and welfare schemes.“Law and order can be effectively maintained only under a BJP govt. Workers must not become complacent about the 2027 assembly elections and should continue strengthening the organisation at the booth level,” he said.Maurya said Prayagraj had emerged as a key growth centre and that the double engine govt” was consistently supporting the city’s development.He urged workers to intensify outreach in neighbourhoods and localities to help the BJP win all 12 assembly seats in Prayagraj district in the 2027 polls.Expressing confidence in the party’s prospects, he said the BJP would form govt in Uttar Pradesh for a third consecutive term in 2027.On whether sitting MLAs could be denied tickets, Maurya said the matter would be decided by the party’s parliamentary board.Senior party leaders, including Vivek Mishra, Pawan Srivastava, Sujit Kushwaha and Anand Dubey, were present.
