Kanpur: A video showing a man recording himself from inside the lock-up of a police station in Kanpur Dehat has gone viral on social media, leaving the police red-faced. Initial investigation revealed that the purported video was shot at the lock-up of Sikandra police station around four months ago.Police said the youths seen in the video had come to the police station to meet someone and were not lodged in the lock-up in connection with any crime. Further investigation is underway.Sikandra SHO Sudhakar Singh said police personnel were unaware that the video was being filmed inside the police station premises. After the video went viral, several discussions surfaced on social media, with many questioning the functioning of the police system.It was reported that the youths entered the lock-up and recorded the video in a manner intended to influence others before uploading it on social media.Singh said preliminary investigation revealed that the video was around four months old. He said that at the time, a group of youths had entered the police station premises and recorded the video while inside the lock-up, which later gained traction on social media.According to Singh, an investigation into the viral video is underway and efforts are being made to identify the youths featured in the footage. Once identified, appropriate action will be taken against them as per rules. Police are also examining how the youths gained access to the lock-up and the responsibility of the personnel deployed on duty at that time.The viral video has raised concerns over police functioning and security protocols at the station premises. Police officials said the matter is being thoroughly investigated and necessary action will be taken against those found responsible.
