Silchar: Cachar police seized suspected narcotics worth around Rs 6.5 crore at the Lailapur Assam-Mizoram check gate on Saturday evening and arrested two people in a major haul along the interstate border.Acting on specific intelligence, a team led by the Lailapur patrol post in-charge intercepted a truck during routine naka checking. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 102 soap cases containing 1.24 kg of suspected contraband concealed inside a specially made secret chamber, police said.The truck driver, Sabir Hussain, and handyman Salim Aminul were arrested on the spot.A senior police officer said the seized contraband is estimated to be worth Rs 6.5 crore in the illicit market. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act and further investigation is underway.The Lailapur check gate on the Assam-Mizoram border has emerged as a key interception point for narcotics trafficking, with Cachar police making several major seizures in recent months.
