The accused had fled the scene after the murder.Vishakh was attacked around 1.30pm near his house at Champakkada Junction. According to police, a group of three to four men led by his neighbour and relative Pradeep arrived in a white in Alto car and assaulted him with sharp-edged weapons. Vishakh suffered deep cut injuries on his hands, legs and abdomen. He was rushed to hospital but succumbed to his injuries.Pradeep, a resident of of Champakkada near Kaithamukku, is also an accused in an earlier case registered at Vanchiyoor police station, police said.Police said the murder was the culmination of a long-standing land boundary dispute between Vishakh and Pradeep. The two had been involved in several confrontations over the years, many of which resulted in police cases. Police said a similar clash had taken place around six months ago, during which Vishakh had allegedly attacked Pradeep. Vishakh was booked as the accused in that case.Senior police officers, including the city police commissioner and assistant commissioner, visited the crime scene and supervised the investigation.As part of the manhunt, police had requested members of the public to remain on the lookout for Pradeep.Search operations were intensified across the city and neighbouring districts to apprehend Pradeep and the others. Police had also examined evidence collected from the scene and questioned witnesses. Vishakh’s body has been shifted to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College for postmortem examination.
