BENGALURU: Karnataka home minister Priyank Kharge on Sunday claimed that Union minister dharmendra Pradhan was “forced” to resign, adding that his exit did not address the underlying issues.Kharge also took a swipe at Dharmendra Pradhan, calling his four-page resignation letter a “love letter” and alleging that the resignation was aimed at preventing anti-national forces from uniting. “As I said, the resignation was not one of conscience or responsibility. It was forced because it was denting the image of the government, hurting Narendra Modi’s popularity, and the Gen Z and students were not ready to relent,” Kharge told ANI.Kharge said the Prime Minister must address Parliament to explain the sequence of events and outline the government’s roadmap for education reforms. He also sought an explanation on who authorised the lathi charge, pellet firing and tear gas against protesting students.

“Just because Dharmendra Pradhan resigned, that doesn’t mean the problem is solved,” he said. Earlier on Saturday, Priyank Kharge launched a scathing attack on the Centre, alleging that young protesters were demonised, accused of receiving foreign funding, and infamously branded as “cockroaches” who should be sprayed with insecticide.Addressing a press conference, Kharge said the Central government had finally woken up from a “deep slumber,” nearly three months after the alleged irregularities first came to light. He further noted that protesting students were accused of receiving food, water, and funds from foreign countries, and were even subjected to ‘cockroach’ remarks before the government held discussions with the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP).(With agency inputs)
